Cradled inside a hidden dell

on a remote Mountainside

lie 19+ partially wooded acres

with a plateau carved by earthmoving equipment

which becomes a vibrant tapestry of wildflowers in the springtime

and dons a fiery cloak of autumn colors every fall

and overlooks a secluded valley

where the name Sunset Basin wasn’t given —it was discovered

a view enhanced by its dark skies (*all photos taken on-site)

Balsam Fir

Planting strategy

  • Bring in ~300 seedlings with 3 new species to improve forest health and protect against impact of species-specific diseases
  • Create nursery to allow seedlings to be planted properly as time allows and replaced when they die
  • Line the main access road with golden Tamaracks
  • Line the main trail with Balsam Firs
  • Fill in between the dominant native Ponderosa Pines with Douglas Firs
  • Accent the mountainside and gathering areas with Sunset Maple trees
  • Space trees to optimize against forest fires (see NFPA – Preparing homes for wildfire) combined with dead tree removal
